Happy Valentine's Day!

Yes, I am still alive. I know I haven't written in awhile, but I am really busy with stuff for school. I thought that student teaching would be easy, but it is a lot of hard work. Here is a look at what has been going on lately...

The Hit Zone

The Hit Zone is coming together nicely! All of the nets are up now, and we got the pitching machines in yesterday. We have all the L-Screens assembled, all the turf down, and all the signs done. We are hoping that we can officially open for business next weekend, but we will see. It has been fun watching the progress on this project.

In the last post I wrote, I mentioned our mouse problem. Well, after we set all of our traps, we never caught anything. But, we kept seeing them run across our living room from our kitchen. We couldn't figure out where they were coming from, so we made our own traps! :) Here is a picture of one. These traps were also unsuccessful. The mouse would just move the trap and take the food. So, the sweet maintenance guy at our apartment set some more traps--this brought the total up to about 20!! After about 10 days, we FINALLY caught one!! Since then, we haven't seen anymore, and our traps still have food on them. We are hoping we got him!

PPR Exam

I took my last certification test on Saturday, and I PASSED!!! I am so glad that I got that out of the way, and I can focus on student teaching. Now, I just have to get through student teaching, and I will be a certified teacher in Texas!

Ali's Job

Ali went for a job interview on Monday and got the job! :) She will be working at Margaret's Day Spa in Snyder. She is an esthetician (skin care specialist) and can do makeup. She is so excited, and I know that she will love it. Her last day of school is Thursday, and then she will take her state board test, and then she will be licensed. She is my best friend in the whole world, and I am so proud of her accomplishments. She has been such a blessing, and I know that she will succeed in her new job. She is going to keep us looking young! :)

Valentine's Party

We had our class Valentine's party on Friday afternoon. This past week has been pretty rough on some of the students. We have had LOTS of students absent due to the flu or strep. We had 7 kids abset on Friday, and I was sad they had to miss our party. We still had a lot of fun. Teachers are no longer allowed to distribute any food/candy to students, but Valentine's was an exception. So, we went all out for the party! Our great parents brought up cupcakes, chocolate covered strawberries, chips, and all kinds of candy! We had fun giving each other Valentine's cards. Some of the students brought my teacher and I some great Valentine's gifts. My favorite gift was my flowers that one of my sweet little girls brought me. I also got another flower, and a butterfly wind chime, and lots of candy from other students. This was a great way to remind each other in our class that we are a family, and we all love each other!

These past few weeks have been crazy and fun! I am so glad that I am able to share my experiences with others. I have learned so much from all the wonderful people that God has placed in my life. I can't wait to see what happens next...

The Hit Zone

So, I posted a picture of The Hit Zone on my last post, and I said I would blog more about it later. The Hit Zone is going to be a really cool place! It will be a place for baseball and softball players to come work on their skills! There will be 4 indoor cages with 2 pitching machines, L-Screens, batting tees etc. I am pretty excited for this to open because Snyder doesn't have anything like it. So, we will see what happens! Dad and Michael have painted the walls, and they worked on laying turf this past Sunday. It was so cool to watch them lay it. The turf was SUPER heavy, and it took a lot of guys to even roll it out. ANOTHER 365 TUESDAY! :)

Wow! I can't believe that is has been a whole week since I have blogged. This past week has been absolute CHAOS! But, among the chaos, there have been some great memories. Here we go...

This was probably the longest day of my life! My teacher had to do some T.P.R.I. testing today, and I had ANOTHER sub! We had been so busy with other things, my teacher and I hadn't planned for the next week. I stayed at school until about 6.30! I worked an 11 hour day!

My dad and one of his good friends is putting in a new business in Snyder. It's called The Hit Zone, and it will be indoor batting cages. More on this later, but for now, here is the building that is being transformed into The Hit Zone.

Today was the 100th day of school!!! We had sooo much fun doing "100 day" activities. We rotated classes in the afternoon, so all the classes could do a different activity. The students were also asked to make "100 day projects." I was sooo impressed with some of them. Check out my smart kindergartners...

So, Ali and I have a new visitor or maybe two. Last night, I had a night class, and Ali texted me that she had seen a mouse under our kitchen table. She freaked out and didn't move from the spot she was in until I got home an hour later! Being girls, we had no clue had to set a mouse trap. So my wonderful friend, Brandon, came and set not one, not two, not three, but TEN mouse traps for us!!! We haven't seen the mouse anymore, and we haven't caught anything in our traps, so we will see what happens.

Also today, I started teaching math. We have been talking about different types of measurement, so today, we talked about how thermometers measure temperature. We made our own thermometers, and the kids loved making them. I think they learned a lot about their "mometers/hamometers" as they would call them. We taped a straw to some card stock with numbers or "degrees" on them. We pulled some red and white yarn through the straw, and to make the mercury rise, you just pull the red yarn to the top. VERY FUN!
